“Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.”

I love this quote from Oprah Winfrey because it reminds me of a fundamental principle of improv.

As you may know, I teach and perform improv comedy. And one of the fundamental principles is active listening.

To be a good improviser, you have to be totally present, in the moment.

And the best improvisers are simply responding to the last thing that was said or done.

This is a principle that also works in life and business.

Sure, you can have long-term visions and plan your future as best you can. But all of the real momentum is created in the moment, right now.

So what can you do this week, today, this hour … heck, even this very second … to make progress with that creative idea you have?

The present moment is where everything happens!
